Quebec government to add 1,000 extra daycare spaces

The Marois government announced that it will be adding 1,000 spaces in daycares starting at the beginning of September.

These spaces are part of a total of 15,000 spaces that have already been announced, but they will be available earlier due to a process of accelerated approval for subsidized establishments that already exist.

During a press conference on Wednesday held in Quebec City, Nicole Léger, Minister of Family, launched a “call for target projects”, in which children’s centres and private, subsidized daycares can already bid.

For example, an establishment that has not reached its maximum occupancy can request two or three extra spaces, without having to make renovations to their building.

The minister said that she will make these spaces available as quickly as possible in response to the “enormous pressure” from parents.
