Record year for Quebec region Centraide

Record year for Quebec region Centraide

Quebec City (Quebec) 28 May 2015 – The amount of money collected for the Quebec City and region Centraide campaign last autumn has surpassed all expectations and has profited from a record distribution of $11.4 million. The money will be distributed among 200 different organizations in the territory which includes the region of Chaudière-Appalaches.

The president and director of the campaign Bruno Marchand would like to thank the organizations who contributed and all the 6,500 volunteers who helped Centraide reach the unexpected amount. He mentioned in an interview that even though the province is on an austerity program, the generosity of the population was overwhelming.

Centraide, known as The United Way in other provinces, serves approximately one in five people of the population, either directly or indirectly and helps other organisations like Moisson Quebec serve its clientele. Moisson Quebec itself helps 35,000 people a month and without the aid furnished by Centraide, would not be able to perform as well as it does. This year they will benefit from a $240,000 donation, the largest part of the distribution process.

M. Marchand underlines that Centraide is the easiest way to help those in need because of its conglomeration of participants explaining that if each charity organization had to collect its own funds, it would be much more difficult for them to do so.

12 new organizations have joined Centraide this year, among them are the RAP (youth intervention), La Maison de Marthe (help for prostitutes) and PECH ( a mental health support group).
