Cross-country skiing, snowshoeing and walking

Québec, December, 2012 – Winter is finally here, and the National Battlefields Commission is putting the final touch on its winter preparations. Although outdoor enthusiasts can already enjoy the site while contemplating the magnificent white landscapes the park has to offer, the cross-country skiing and snowshoeing trails will soon be groomed to welcome them free of charge. This year, once again, the popular Snowshoer guided tour will delight both snowshoeing enthusiasts and history buffs!

The Snowshoer– from January to March
Take part in this old-fashioned guided snowshoeing tour. History buffs and winter activities enthusiasts: put on your woollen cap, mittens, arrowhead sash and traditional snowshoes to accompany, under lantern light, 20th-century snowshoer Amédée Fournier (or his wife), on the Plains of Abraham. This original recreational activity will make you shiver with delight as you bask in the Belle Époque atmosphere of past winter sports and leisure. Equipment and hot chocolate included. This year, a new item on the menu for school break: the Snowshoer Family Outing!
In English: February 16, at 4:00 p.m.
In French: January 12, 19, 26, February 2, 9, 16, 23, and March 2, at 7:00 p.m.
$17/13-64 years old; $15/65 years or older.
•Lasts approximately 105 minutes;
•Groups of 9 people or more can make reservations at any time;
•Tour leaves from the Discovery Pavilion, equipment provided;

Cross-country skiing, snowshoeing and walking – from mid-December to the end of March*
Ski free of charge in one of the most accessible and enchanting sites as you enjoy an unrestricted view of the St. Lawrence River. The Plains of Abraham offers 12.6 km of groomed trails for beginner and intermediate cross-country skiers, 3.8 km (round trip) of snowshoeing trails along Cap Diamant, from the Cap-Blanc stairs to Gilmour Hill, and 5.6 km of walking trails. A waxing room and two heated rest stops are also available at the Discovery Pavilion and at the Pavilion (near the Edwin-Bélanger Bandstand). The Friends of the Plains of Abraham offer an equipment rental service for boots, cross-country skis, poles and showshoes at the Discovery Pavilion.* Equipment Rental

The rental service can be advanced or extended according to snow coverage.
For those interested: classic- and free-style skiing lessons for adults will be offered beginning in January.
