Rescue Research Centre Closure Postponed Again

Rescue Research Centre Closure Postponed Again

The closure of the Canadian Coast Guard in Quebec’s rescue research centre has been postponed again.

Rather than Spring 2013, Ottawa may now finally close the doors of MRSC Quebec next Fall.

This is at least what has been revealed by the spokesman for Saving MRSC Quebec, Hubert Desgagnés, and another close source. Both reported that employees were made aware of the new deadline last week.

According to them, Trenton and Halifax rescue centres, where Quebec activities would be transferred, are unable to find bilingual employees to do the work.

For more than a year and a half, only two rescue coordinators were hired out of the 15 needed.

These specialized positions are exceedingly difficult to fill. Even in Quebec, the recruitment process is extremely long.

Quebec hopes Ottawa will admit their mistake and change their original decision.

Annick Papillon, Quebec NDP member, believes that the Conservative government will have no choice but to carry out a 180-degree turn around.
