Saint-Ferréol-les-Neiges to get Summer Ski Training Facilities

Saint-Ferréol-les-Neiges to get Summer Ski Training Facilities

For many years we have been expecting this: an asphalted 4.9 km lane for roller skis will be built in the next few months at the Centre national d’entrainement Pierre Harvey, in Saint-Ferréol-les-Neiges.

This track allows skiers to improve their training during the hot summer season. The athletes are gone in November until March. All winter, they are outside for competitions. Therefore, they need to have the appropriate equipment in the summer to maintain their training and progress for the next season.

Progress, but also safe progress because, unless they exile themselves to Western Canada for the summer, the skiers had to train on the public roads. This wasn’t safe. The police officers try to help them but there is still a long way to go. The new track, costing $275,000, will be ready for summer 2013.

Another track that caught the skiers’ attention these days is the one for the Sprint World Cup in front of the Quebec National Assembly.

On Thursday, Alex Harvey, Pierre’s son, was anxious to ski on this track. The competition will be hard and he will have to take risks.
