Shaken Baby Death: A Babysitter Accused Four Years Later

St. Jerome (Quebec) 13 March 2015 – Four years after the death of little Loghann in a daycare Mirabel, criminal charges were finally filed against his babysitter that would have shook the toddler of 11 months.

“The 60 year old lady was arrested yesterday at her home in Mirabel. She will appear this morning at the courthouse in St. Jerome on a charge of manslaughter,” said Sergeant Martine Asselin of the Sûreté du Québec.

The tragedy occurred May 4th, 2011, in a home daycare Mirabel. The head of the nursery, Yolande Bélanger dialed 911 around 13h mentioning that the young Loghann fell on his head and had trouble breathing.

During transport to the hospital of St. Jerome, he had three cardiac arrests and transferred to the Montreal Children’s Hospital. During the evening, he died after having had three more heart attacks.

An autopsy was performed at the hospital, but could not determine the exact cause of death. The Sûreté du Québec decided to go further to know the true circumstances of the death and asked for further analysis of the toddler’s brain.

This is following the results of these analyzes that charges have been filed against the lady. Loghann parents also filed a civil suit claiming $ 225,000 against the leaders of the center in May, accusing them of negligence. The couple was devastated by the death of their child.
