Québec City, February 2011 – Winter wouldn’t be the same in Stoneham and Québec City without the region’s not-to-be-missed snowboard festival. This year, Snowboard Jamboree presented by LG Canada will run from February 14 to 20, 2011, as athletes from all over the world fly in to compete in the various LG/FIS Snowboard World Cups. And once again Québec City locals can’t wait to show the world how happy they are to host yet another international sports competition.

“The Québec stage is the only one in the world to hold four World Cups in a single event—Snowboard Cross, Halfpipe, Big Air, and Parallel Giant Slalom,” beams Gestev vice president Chantal Lachance. “It’s a one-of-a-kind chance to come cheer on the best athletes on the planet, all going head to head. And one of the best in the world is obviously local girl Dominique Maltais, who’s dominating the international scene at the minute and will be going all out to win the Snowboard Cross World Cup in front of her home fans!”

At LG Electronics, we believe in the marriage of high quality entertainment and high performance,” says Stephen Parish, Manager of Sponsorship, LG Electronics Canada. “We are proud to sponsor Canada~Snowboard and the Snowboard Jamboree. The Snowboard Jamboree will offer spectators the chance to live an amazing weekend full of activities to enjoy and to cheer for the best snowboarders in the world.

Recent world champions Lindsey Jacobellis (United States), Alex Pullin (Australia), Karl Benjamin (Austria), Holly Crawford (Australia), and Nathan Johnston (Australia) will all be there.

Starting at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, February 16, the competitions will begin with heats for the LG/FIS Snowboard Cross World Cup. Athletes will pit themselves against the course’s steep turns and jumps in groups of four, their one and only aim being to cross the finish line as quickly as possible. And from 2 p.m. on Thursday, February 17, the final will put riders’ skills and mettle to the test. So far Dominique Maltais has barely put a foot wrong this season. Will we see her on the podium in Stoneham?

Many say the LG/FIS Big Air World Cup is the most impressive event of the lot. The finals will take place this year at 7 p.m. on Saturday, January 19 between the ramps of Autoroute Dufferin-Montmorency. Heats will be held throughout the afternoon from 1:30 p.m. to 5 p.m.

One by one, riders launch off a 40 m high and 110 m long jump or “kicker,” performing tricks in the air before landing on a 30º slope. Judges award points for overall impression, taking style, risk, and landing into account. The Big Air is sure to wow crowds and photographers alike!
