Solidarity for Chandler Cats

CHANDLER – ABANDONNED CATS – A SOLIDARITY MOVEMENT

The many abandoned cats in Chandler, Gaspésie have touched the hearts of it’s citizens, who have proposed a solidarity movement to take care of the situation.

Jennifer Bertrand, who has taken charge of animal care, is touched by the outpouring of sympathy with regards to this situation.

‘’One woman recognized her cat that she’d lost in a picture that was in the newspaper.  She showed me photos of her cat when she was a kitten.  So, she came to get her cat’’, explained Mrs. Bertrand.

There have been more than a dozen adoptions. ‘’Many people have come to adopt cats after they have been made aware of the problem.  I hope that these people will take good care of these cats and that they will keep them’’, said Mrs. Bertrand.

Mrs. Bertrand feels many emotions when she watches a cat leave that she has fed, cared for and loved.  ‘’I know that they will be better off in a house with a family than they are here, of course, but it always hurts to see them leave’’, she said.

A resident of Lévis, in the Québec region, even sent a cheque for fifty dollars to Jennifer Bertrand in the mail, with a letter that read, ‘’Thank you for all that you’ve done for these cats’’.

Another resident of Chandler collected money from their place of employment in order to help.  ‘’It’s touching to see the support that people are giving’’, said Mrs. Bertrand.
