PRESS RELEASE: FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

CHARLOTTETOWN (PEI), September 20, 2014 — The Battlefields Park received a 5 Bloom rating and a special mention for My Mobile Plains new app during the 2014 National Symposium and Awards Ceremonies in Charlottetown, PEI.

The Battlefields Park participated in the Special Attractions (Evaluated) category along with the Ukrainian Cultural Heritage Village and The Reford Gardens.

In July, trained volunteer judges travelled to participating communities to evaluate the overall contributions of municipal council and departments; industry; businesses and the private sector – including volunteer efforts – in regards to the following criteria: Tidiness, Environmental Action, Heritage Conservation, Urban Forestry, Landscape and Floral Displays.

Following their evaluation, volunteer judges Odette Sabourin-Dumais and Gérald Lajeunesse wrote: “The National Battlefields Commission demonstrated a great sense of innovation by launching the application “My mobile Plains.” Technology and history combine to provide visitors with a free cross-platform application. This efficient and user friendly tool allows geotagging of nearly 200 points of interest and historic sites worthy of exploration. Visitors everywhere on the park can experience the essence of the natural, cultural and historical via interactive map to scale. They can watch videos, stories and narratives, archival photos, and more. Thanks to GPS, the user can browse through nearly 30 categories (artillery, monuments, info-plants, exhibitions, etc.) and explore the Joan of Arc Garden, one of the jewels of the Plains of Abraham, which contains over 150 species of flowers to enjoy. ”

Within the actual context of climate changes and environmental concerns, communities involved in the program can be proud of their efforts, which provide real and meaningful environmental solutions and benefit all of society.
