St Patrick’s Parade in Quebec City – Colourful and Festive

Québec City, Friday, March 13th, 2015 – The Défilé de la Saint-Patrick de Québec will celebrate its 6th anniversary on Saturday, March 28th, 2015, at 1:30 p.m. in Québec City.

From St. Patrick’s High School to City Hall, all are invited to come celebrate our common Irish heritage by displaying their finest green attire!

Mr. Daniel O’Dowd, President of Frank M. O’Dowd Inc., Canadian Customs Brokers and International Freight Forwarders, will do the honours of leading the way as Grand Marshal of the Défilé de la Saint-Patrick 2015. “It is with great pleasure that I have accepted the organizing committee’s invitation to act as Grand Marshal of the Défilé this year”, says Mr. O’Dowd, who has been actively involved in the event since 2012. “Following the arrival of thousands of Irish at Grosse-Île during the Great Famine in Ireland, we have been supported by the people of the region and Québec has become our second home. To me, the Défilé de la Saint-Patrick de Québec is a strong symbol of cultural renewal and shows the importance of the Irish presence in Québec.”

Now part of the Défilé de la Saint-Patrick de Québec tradition, the Dream Team is back in Québec City. It involves the members of the Pipes & Drums of the Emerald Society of the New York City Police Department, the Boston Police Gaelic Column of Pipes and Drums and the Pipes and Drums of the Chicago Police Department. The Défilé de la Saint-Patrick de Québec is the only North American event where these three renowned groups perform together.

Once again this year, four magnificent horses from the Musical Ride of the RCMP and their riders will be joining us, to everyone’s delight. Thus, they ensure the tradition of horses participating in the great Irish parades. The citizens will also witness pipers and percussionists from Québec and Montreal, Irish Wolfhounds, Celtic dance troupes, leprechauns, representations of historical characters and a wide array of Irish families who partake in our event year after year. In all, over 30 groups will join us in the Défilé this year.

“It is with renewed pleasure that we welcome the 6th Défilé de la Saint-Patrick to the streets of Québec,” said Mr. Régis Labeaume, Mayor of Québec City. “On March 28th, I invite all citizens to don their green apparel and to join us in demonstrating our attachment to the Quebecers of Irish descent during this grand parade!”

The Défilé de la Saint-Patrick de Québec happily welcomes the Festibière de Québec to its list of collaborators for its 6th edition. From March 26th to the 28th, 2015, Festibière Fête la St-Patrick will be hosting over 20 brewers, microbreweries, cideries and restaurateurs at the Pavillon du Commerce (ExpoCité). All are welcome to join the Défilé and Festibière Fête la St-Patrick in celebration of our Irish heritage, where traditional music and ambience are guaranteed to entertain all!

“The addition of Festibière Fête la Saint-Patrick to the program this year will allow citizens to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day over a three-day event”, added Ms. Michelle Morin-Doyle, Deputy Mayor and member of the Executive Committee of Québec City. “This event will kick off the St. Patrick’s Day festivities, which will lead up to the must-see parade; a true Québec City tradition. The population will no doubt contribute to the success of both events!”

The Défilé de la Saint-Patrick de Québec wishes to thank its major partners, without whom the event would not be possible: Québec City, Fairmont Le Château Frontenac, Industrielle Alliance, W. Rourke Ltée, the Pub Saint-Patrick, Frank M. O’Dowd Inc., the Secrétariat à la Capitale-Nationale, Québec City Tourism, Simons, Ameublements Tanguay, Guinness, Hilton Québec, Équipe Donovan, Groupe Deric, and all our media partners.
