Supply and Demand – C’est la vie

Supply and Demand – C’est la vie

Earlier in the week, we received this opinion piece from regular contributor, Peter Stuart.

Duncan Flowers read it and sent in a response:

Peter, a couple of points about your article:

Nobody forces anybody to pay money to watch an NHL game, the fact is, some people earn enough money to be able to afford the price of a ticket, and how they spend their hard earned cash is up to them. I’m pretty sure that if the arenas were empty for each game the price of the tickets would come down. Supply and demand Peter, supply and demand.

As for the “does anybody REALLY need $7m a year to live on” – I doubt it, but they don’t earn $7m for every year of their working lives. They generally stop in their thirties, leaving them around 30 years to find “other work” or do as most Canadians do – live off the money they have invested from their “work”.

What you touched on here Peter is not a Hockey problem – it’s a fact of life – the less people there are able to do a job, the more they are able to charge for their services and the rarer the item, be it a hockey ticket or a 5 carat diamond , the more the item will cost you – C’est la vie!
