Sylvie Fréchette, president of honour of the FINA Synchronized Swimming World Cup

Affiche_Nage_Synchro_webQuébec City, Wednesday, September 17, 2014 – It’s confirmed: Olympians Valérie Welsh, Elise Marcotte, and Marie-Pier Boudreau Gagnon will be ambassadors at the FINA Synchronized Swimming World Cup presented by RBC, and now the organizing committee is proud to announce that Sylvie Fréchette will be president of honour of the event at Université Laval’s PEPS aquatic centre from October 2 to 5, 2014.

“I just had to be involved in this event. Canada has never seen the like of it,” admits Fréchette, who has won 65 medals over the course of her career, 10 of them gold. “It’s an incredible showcase for the sport and Team Canada!”

When she won her second World Champion title in 1991, Québec favourite Sylvie Fréchette became the first swimmer in history to rack up a perfect score: all 7 judges gave her 10 out of 10. But her exploit at Barcelona one year later lived longest in the memory. Shaken by personal tragedy just before the competition, the swimmer decided to pursue her Olympic dream and put in a gold-winning performance. A scoring error deprived her of first place, but one year later the International Olympic Committee finally awarded her the gold medal she deserved.

Sylvie Fréchette is a real symbol of determination and being able to push ourselves as hard as we can. The organizing committee behind the FINA Synchronized Swimming World Cup is sure that she will again prove an inspiration to many through her involvement in the event. An autograph session is planned. Details to come on
