Terrorism Drill in Montréal

Montreal (Quebec) 25 october 2015 – A major terrorism drill took place Saturday in Montréal.

Called “Montreal 360,” the exercise was a simulation of terrorist acts. The main objective was to enhance readiness of those concerned if an attack was to go down.

The Montréal Police and a dozen organizations, including the Regional Department of Public Health, Urgences-Santé, Quebec Civil Security, National Defence, the Fire Department of Montreal, the Société de transport of Montreal, the Royal Canadian Mounted Police and the Sûreté du Québec were among those who participated.

This simulation is the first to be held in Montreal since 2005.

Overall, more than 350 participants and 200 observers were expected Saturday for the operation.

The exercise was first held at the military base at Longue-Pointe, in the district Mercier-Hochelaga-Maisonneuve and downtown, near the headquarters of the SPVM and Black Watch Armoury, located on Bleury Street near Avenue President Kennedy.

Some streets were closed off to traffic until 3 pm Saturday afternoon.
