The 2012 Edition of the Défilé de la St-Patrick de Québec: a Success!

Québec, March 26, 2012 –   More than 1,000 participants organised into 40 different groups marched in Saturday’s parade. An enthusiastic crowd estimated at 50,000 spectators attended the third edition of the event. The much milder weather, compared to last year’s -12C, made the parade even more enjoyable.

“We expected a crowd of 40,000, said outgoing president, Peter Farrell. We are delighted to see that there were even more people this year. It was a beautiful, family parade; I am proud of Québec City’s participation.”

Farrell, who is leaving the Défilé this year, could rightly say, “I am leaving knowing that the Défilé de la St-Patrick de Québec is now an annual event for the people of Québec; mission accomplished!”

The parade, opened for the first time this year by six magnificent Canadian Horses, was about 2km long. We were also thrilled to have a singer performing the songs of La Bolduc, and the legendary Bob Walsh, Grand Marshall of this year’s edition. The famous NYPD Pipes and Drums, brass bands, as well as Irish dancers that made young and old step to the music enhanced the festivities. Our honoured guest, Joe Malone Jr., joined us to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the Québec Bulldogs Stanley Cup victory.
