The Lac-Mégantic Tragedy

The Lac-Mégantic Tragedy

Lac-Megantic-Train_derailsIt’s been just over a week now since the truly shocking events that took place in the small Eastern Quebec town of Lac-Mégantic.

First of all, as residents of Quebec province, everyone involved in LifeinQuebec.com would like to offer heartfelt condolences to the families and friends of loved ones lost as a result of the train derailment. If we’re late to the news, it’s not because we didn’t think it was important. We, like you, could do nothing else than follow the events as they unfolded on the major news outlets – and often, we simply didn’t know what to say.

With the heart ripped out of the town, a close-knit community of only around 6,000 people, it’s going to take an awful long time for the people and the region to recover from this. If indeed they ever will. Many have lost lives, families have been torn apart, and buildings, at the very hub of the community, have been razed to the ground. Where does the region go from here?

Beyond simply reporting the facts, only those involved in the tragedy and recovery efforts can truly help the rest of us understand the reality of what has happened and is happening. If you have any stories, experiences, or opinions you want to share, please contact us with any pictures, articles, ideas, or anything you think the rest of us should know about.

Once again, our thoughts are will the families involved in this.
