The Tall Ships are Coming

Marie-Clarisse_Quebec
Quebec City (Quebec) 28 August, 2014 – From September 5th through to the 7th, Quebec City will be graced with the presence of seven special sailing vessels which will adorn the river and the docks in and around the old port installations. The spectacle is called ‘Les Grands Voiliers 1864-2014‘ and is being organized by Rendez-vous Naval de Québec and 3E and is all about celebrating the Charlottetown and Québec Conferences which took place in 1864, 150 years ago.

The show will include different activities including singing groups, dance troupes and the chance go on board the tall ships that will be docked at the various wharfs.

The vessels coming are, the Marie Clarisse, Empire Sandy, Spirit of Bermuda, Fair Jeanne, the Mist of Avalon, the Roter Sand and the St. Lawrence II. There will be animation on the docks with such groups as Ten Strings and a Goat Skin, Caroline Bernard, and Meaghan Blanchard among others. The second day will see the exploits of the École de Cirque with a special presentation for the occasion entitled Bastringus 1864 put to music from the XlX century.

The whole presentation is a prelude to the 150 years of Confederation Celebration which will take place in the summer of 2017 where 40 to 50 tall ships should be lining the shores of the city.

Both events are being financed by the Federal Government and will hopefully be a stunning success; after all, who doesn’t like seeing two and three masted schooners sailing down the gracious St. Lawrence river in front of one of the world’s most photographed hotels.

Hopefully the weather will co-operate for the weekend of September 5th.

Be there.
