Theatre Workshops kick off at Morrin Centre on February 10

Are you perfecting the perfect sales pitch, preparing your course notes for you next class, or have you been asked to give a toast at a wedding? Are you an experienced or an amateur actor? Join us at the Morrin Centre on Saturday, February 10 at 1 p.m., and ensure that you nuance exactly what you mean the next time you say, “Thank you.”

We will dive into the hilarious poem, The Chaos Of English Pronunciation by Gerard Nolst Trenité which looks at some 800 irregularities in English. You’ll ask yourself “Schwa does she want me to do with this?” when your coach hands you your own wine cork. Whether you are a native English speaker or English is your second, third or forth language you are invited to this workshop and take command of the subtle sounds of English, so that your next performance, regardless of the situation, is stellar.

Mary McCown is an English as a Second Language Instructor in Quebec City and in Beijing, China. She is also a journalist for the Quebec Chronicle Telegraph. She received a B.A. degree in theatre from The University of Alabama at Birmingham and has remained active in film, television and theatre. She hosted CBC’s Living Winnipeg and worked as the Associate Theatre School Director in Winnipeg, Manitoba. Mary continues to work in television/film production in the United States and in Canada. She has been coaching adults in public speaking, enunciation and dialects since 2007.
