ULaval to host matches from premier tennis event FED Cup

Laval University will be presenting some of the FED Cup games at the PEPS April 19th and 20th. The FED Cup is the women’s premier international team tennis event (www.fedcup.com/) and we have the chance to have this happen in our city. This tournament will determine if the Canadians or the Slovaks will get a place amongst the number 1 group worldwide.

Apart from the Quebecer Eugenie Bouchard, a new player ranking 19th internationally, there are many big players such as Dominika Cibulkova and Daniela Hantuchova, 13th and 33rd. In the beginning of February, at Montreal’s Claude-Robillard Centre, Aleksandra Wozniak, Sharon Fichman, and Gabriela Dabrowski won against their rivals from Serbia in the first round of the second group. This gave the opportunity for Canada to try and join the women tennis elite for the first time in 20 years.

Canada has the privilege to play a decisive match, the Canadian Tennis bronzes all turned to Laval University’s new facilities.

On February 17th, a group came to observe the installations guided by their host, Jacques Hérisset who is the president of the Bell Challenge, the woman’s tennis tournament held at the PEPS every year which was the first official event to be presented in the new PEPS six months ago. Everything is new and meets their requirements and all is looking good. The event is managed by the Groupe des Remparts, which organises the Bell Challenge. The marketing of the event and tickets should be starting very soon. About one hundred volunteers will be necessary to hold this competition. The games will be presented in two days but the players and their families will be arriving in Quebec a few days in advance. Tennis Canada will confirm the details this weekend.
