Victory for Rouge et Or’s Men’s Volleyball Team

Victory for the Rouge et Or. Words that hadn’t been spoken for Laval University’s volleyball team since 1994.

Four quarters were enough for Pascal Clement’s men, Sunday, to dispose of the McMaster Marauders and become university level national champions. At last!

Success is not a question of time; it’s a question of process. The path is long, but it is worth the wait. For the first time in the championship, Laval imposed itself from the start ending the first quarter 26-24. The Ontario champions, McMaster, then stole the half with 25-22. Staying calm and following the game plan, the Laval team won the next two quarters 25-22 and 25-21, making the crowd rise to their feet.

Nominated star of the game, number 9, Tommy Belisle insisted that the team won. They made this together, all the players, the coaches, and medical staff. Belisle was incredible. He made fifteen winning attacks. Not bad for a guy who was on crutches the previous Wednesday.

All the Rouge et Or players were talking about the team’s strength. It was a last chance for Frederic Mondou, Pierre-Alexis Lapointe, and Justin Boudreault to make their way through university with a national victory.

They can now leave with their heads held high.
