Wednesday night welcome for Filles du Roy

FNF_2013Holding a handkerchief, tears in their eyes, the Filles du Roy had a great welcome on Wednesday night from the crowded docks of the Basin Louise de Quebec. Grouped on the boat bringing them to the city, they sent great joy to the people.

Their arrival in town was the official start of the Fêtes de la Nouvelle-France. It is the 350th anniversary of the venue of these 36 women who crossed the Atlantic in 1663. The trip lasted 111 days.

They are the mothers of Quebec. Only 22 of the 36 girls were on board when the boat arrived due to Canada Transport Security norms.

Three draws were held to know which girls would be on the boat and who would be waiting in a tent on the dock. They gathered and walked through alleys and played their roles, which they’ve been practicing for the past two years. They had to tell their story and their role in the history of Quebec.

Drums were setting their pace. The 36 Filles du Roy will participate in the Fêtes de la Nouvelle-France. They will then be heading to Trois-Rivières and Montreal.

During this adventure, each one will have the chance to go on the boat.
