Where is Quebec’s Best Poutine?

Where is Quebec’s Best Poutine?

Does Mamie Pataterie gourmande serve the best poutine?

The snackbar has won over many fans.

So what about Ashton’s? No one can deny that it’s good. But is it the best?

Cuisine Boulet on boul. de l’Ormière, in Quebec, is also very popular.

The Casse-croûte du Vieux-Moulin is also right up there. It’s a popular stop for passing motorcyclists.

Quebecers seem to love variations of their acknowledged regional dish.

Poutine au foie gras (of all things) available at La Roulotte du coin in Saint-Famille on l’Île d’Orléans, is a favourite for the island’s residents.

The. Fries. Are. Cooked. In. Duck. Fat.

Sounds like heaven.

One place in particular sticks out – Mamie Pataterie gourmande, in Saint-Roch-des-Aulnaies, which is about an hour from Quebec City.

At Mamie’s, poutine is offered in many different flavours: merguez, mushrooms, bourgignon, or grilled veggies. Add some “luxe” and there you obtain the Portobello and three-pepper sauce, smoked salmon and lobster sauce, or the house specialty, frayed duck in a wine sauce.

Using local products, there’s more than ‘ordinary’ poutine on the menu.

The frayed duck meat adds a wild touch that customers seem to appreciate.
Everyone has their own preferred fries but Mamie’s seem to have hit the bull’s eye with this one.

Many fries-cheese-sauce lovers will be skeptical when seeing this new menu and may opt for the traditional version.

Go and see for yourself:

Off to St. Roch des Aulnaies, but I don’t think I’ll be eating Poutine. Casse Croute Chez Bardy makes a good one too. Henri Bourassa & Hwy 40.
