Wonder(s) Will Never Cease

From the Festival d’été de Québec:

Quebec City, May 28, 2013 – The Festival d’été de Québec is wrapping up in style on July 14 with international icon Stevie Wonder, one of the most celebrated and prominent figures in popular music. The American singer, songwriter, musician, and producer will be playing the Bell Stage on the Plains of Abraham.

This will be Stevie Wonder’s first time ever in Quebec City, and his only show in the province. “We’re just so proud that he chose Quebec City, especially since his live performances are rare,” said Louis Bellavance, programming director for the Festival. “We wanted a big name to bring out the crowds for the last night of the event and we can say mission accomplished! Stevie Wonder is hugely popular with audiences of all ages,” he added.

Stevie Wonder, recipient of the prestigious Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award, is the solo male singer who has won the most Grammy Awards, over twenty in all. Superstition, Sir Duck, You Are the Sunshine of My Life, Isn’t She Lovely, I Just Called to Say I Love You, the list of hits goes on and on. To date he has amassed an astounding 49 Top 40 singles, 32 #1 singles, and worldwide album sales totaling more than 100 million units. He received the Library of Congress Gershwin Prize for Popular Song plus a Golden Globe and an Academy Award for the song I Just Called To Say I Love You from the movie, The Woman In Red.

While Stevie Wonder’s songs are unequivocally classic and his influence timeless, equally laudable are his humanitarian efforts, philanthropic leadership, and generosity of spirit. In recognition of his support for civil and human rights issues, Wonder was designated as a United Nations Messenger of Peace, with a special focus on people with disabilities.

July 14 will certainly be a great moment and see thousands of festival fans converging on the Plains to groove to some of this living legend’s greatest hits.

French artist Zaz will be first up on this last evening of the Festival.
The 46th edition of the Festival d’été de Québec will be held from July 4 to 14, 2013.

The Festival d’été de Québec is presented by Bell in collaboration with Molson Dry.
