World Snowshoe Championship 2012 – Results From Quebec City

2012 World Snowshoe Championship – Top racers at Forêt Montmorency!

Québec, March 2012 – The 36 h de la Forêt Montmorency ended recently north of Quebec City. The weekend long event was host to the 2012 World and provincial Snowshoe Championship. Raquettequebec.com and its partner la Forêt Montmorency welcomed high level athletes for the occasion! All in all, close to 150 competitors from all over North America and Europe were on site for the cross-country 25k and 42k race on Saturday and the 10k snowshoe race on Sunday, last weekend.

David Le Pohro of Montreal, Quebec, won a second straight World Snowshoe Championships men’s title. Eric Hartmark from Duluth, USA was second and Stéphane Ricard, France and European champion in 2011 was third. Italy’s Maria Grazi Roberti was followed by Amber Ferreira of Westford USA and Mélanie Nadeau from Sherbrooke QC was third.

Special guests from the Ciaspolada Italian delegation were in Quebec for the event. The Ciaospolada, most important snowshoe event in the world counting more than 6000 participants every year, will host the 2013 World Snowshoe Championship next January.

During the final ceremony, Daniel Desrosiers president of the Quebec Snowshoe Association raquettequebec.com and the Ciaspolada delegates announced that the 4 best Canadian racers would be graciously invited to come to Italy next year for the World Championship. David Le Pohro from Montreal, Joël Bourgeois from Québec, Mélanie Nadeau from Sherbrooke and Mélissa Chénard from Québec will fly to Italy next January.
